If you're ever out here with a car, go to the National Cryptologic Museum on a Friday afternoon when you have time to kill and schedule a guided tour. The docents are all retired agents and Friday afternoon is when they schedule the ones who can be trouble ;)

The tour is supporsed to be 90 minutes and ours lasted about 3.5 hours because the docent was DELIGHTED to have people who understood what a big deal it is that they let you PLAY WITH THE ENIGMA MACHINES. LIKE RIGHT THERE. HANDS ON.

Museum docents, especially retirees, are the best. My personal favorite docents are the ones at Salisbury Cathedral, especially the ones at the Magna Carta exhibit. But you find great ones all over.

Took my mom to the National Cryptologic Museum a decade or two ago. She still remembered it as the motel it had been when she worked translating Korean during that war, and got to have fun with "They've declassified this, now I can find out what they were doing, since we weren't cleared for it then"

I misread this as National Cryptid Museum and was confused why they had the Enigma Machine.

I've been to the International Spy Museum and that was quite cool - I assume this is a different place?
