(And the people who think they're scam-proof are often the people scammers have a really good success rate with, because they smugly assure themselves they'd NOTICE if someone were scamming them and so they don't stay on guard for it.)
The Fundamental Failure Theorem of Systemantics. Complex systems are always operating in a failure mode, but the system compensates. So even though it takes 7 things to fail for the system to fail, at any time 3 or 4 may be failing.
I would have been scammed by someone impersonating my mobile phone operator if I hadn’t been extremely busy packing up my house. So I just had no time to talk. And about 20 mins after putting the phone down, my brain caught up and went “huh, why was company so insistent? Was that a scam?”
