Today’s historic pic: Exactly 37 years ago today, Melbourne first generation E class tram no 44 sits in the depot at Bendigo, October 18, 1987. Built in 1914, this tram ran in Melbourne until 1951, then went to Bendigo to become their no 17 and was restored to its original condition in the 1980s.

A front-on view of a WW1-era bogie tram in maroon and cream livery. The drivers cab has three windows, and a single large centrally mounted headlight is on the apron. The tram is in a tram shed with other trams visible either side of it, including, to its right, a half or one third scale mini tram that was used to promote Bendigo Tramways.
