Since the problem I've always had with how Rule 0/pregame works is it has too many avenues open at start, then you narrow down. When it should be start narrow and expand as people talk and get to know each others styles. 'A chill commander game' means very different things to Tammy and Spyke.
(I don't know enough about cEDH to speak on it, but it also adds the advantage of pointing some cards to be contra-indicated to answer Thoracle combo or Flash combo.) I want a system where Commandfest and Magiccons have a stable ground level (stricter rules), and house rules can expand.
The difference between Golos and Iona is pretty big, I don't think Iona should be flat unbanned, but if cards are on a 0-7 point scale, Iona at 5 and Golos at 7 means events/pods can run at 'things 4 and under are legal.' or 'you can run a single 7 in your deck.'
Prof's video on a points system I think gets closer to it, but I don't think rating a deck off of the points of the cards in the deck is as useful as treating the brackets/points more like a step pyramid of bans. Which would allow for unbans to happen, or rather, place them on a lower tier of ban.
So I don't use Ex or Reddit meaning that this is my best choice for offering my two cents on commander to @gavinverhey.bsky.social (which I hope works). I'd like a system that's as... flexible as possible for players to sculpt it to their group while allowing big events to have a stable baseline.
One thing I haven't seen any of the Commander folks that are anti-bans answer is why they're so angry. What part of the bans is a betrayal worthy of the vitriol I've seen even OUTSIDE the ones sending threats. Plenty of reasons why they disagree with the bans, none to explain the anger.
It kinda sucks when a channel you've followed for forever gives you the ick because its hosts decide to have the worst fucking takes possible. Like- you still do it, if you have scruples. But it still sucks.
Congrats assholes, you got what you wanted. You'll never get to play that card again. I hope they never unban Crypt just to fuck you guys in particular.
I hope that WotC taking over Commander doesn't fuck everything up, but given that they were given control over doxing and death threats it's safe to assume. - We will never know who is making the choices for Commander ever again. - The choices will benefit pushing power over all other things.
