These days I find the easiest way is just to handle most of my unwanted smart devices is to put them on the WiFi for setup and updates and the go into the router and program a seal that keeps them blocked from the internet when I don't specifically want them to use it.

A framing I came up with is that the media is willing to SUGGEST that a political figure is corrupt or incompetent, but lacks the will to affirmatively STATE that this is the case, and so once corruption/incompetence becomes obvious they have nothing they're willing to say.
