Now Dechert has settled Azima’s U.S. lawsuit too. (The terms weren’t disclosed and Dechert hasn’t admitted liability.) This (mostly) wraps up an extraordinary case that has shone a bright light on the mercenary hacking industry - & how some lawyers benefit from it. www.reuters.com/business/aer...

Dechert said they had nothing to do with the hack and that it was all just fortuitous timing. One of their lawyers, Neil Gerrard, told a U.K. judge he was alerted to the leak by a contractor. Even at the time, though, the judge was skeptical of Dechert’s client, RAKIA (From the 2020 judgment ⬇️)

Azima’s emails were published to the web by what seemed to be a kind of whistleblower. This came at an interesting time, right as he was being sued by a client of the major U.S. law firm Dechert.
