My Christmas gift is the greatest article in the history of the Columbia Daily Spectator, wherein a sports reporter describes the swimming team training on the Hudson River with ice floes. Happy hollys! www.columbiaspectator.com/2004/01/23/p...

COLUMBIA SPECTATOR

"Not having the pool available has been a huge inconvenience," Head Coach Jim Bolster said. "But the Hudson River is free, and we've had no problems there."

The men's swimmers have been training by paddling on ice floes in the river while wearing wetsuits and thermal caps, all during one of the coldest winters in recent memory.
The alternative training method takes one of two forms. In one case, one swimmer lies down on a small floe and takes modified swimming strokes to move it across the river. In the other, each division of the team (sprinters, middle-distance, and long-distance) gathers on its own large ice floe and paddles it.

We need to appoint more public defenders to the bench. www.courts.state.hi.us/wp-content/u...

Enduring law is imperiled. Emerging law is stunted. A
justice's personal values and ideas about the very old days suddenly control the lives of present and future generations.
Recently, the Supreme Court erased a constitutional right. It recalled autonomy and empowered states to force birth "for one
reason and one reason only: because the composition of this
Court has changed." Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Org., 142
s. Ct. 2228, 2319-20 (2022) (Kagan, J., dissenting). The day before, the court cherry-picked history to veto public safety legislation, disturb the tranquility of public places, and increase homicide. New York State Rifle & Pistol Ass'n, Inc. v.
Bruen, 142 S. Ct. 2111 (2022). The same week, it promoted a conjured idea hostile to judicial restraint - "major questions." When executive branch policy-making grazes disliked policy
preferences, major questions "magically appear as get-out-of-text-free cards." West Virginia v. EPA, 142 S. Ct. 2587, 2641
(2022) (Kagan, J., disse

The easiest way to minimize civilian deaths is to not bomb refugee camps.

They made me cut it because the source didn't want to use their name, but a Smithsonian official told me they didn't want these monuments because "museums aren't America's attic for its racist shit."

A bee tried to murder me and all my colleagues are useless - did I get the stinger out? Do I need to watch the documentary My Girl for a preview of my funeral?

My neck with a red bee sting. Status of stinger presently unknown.
