Lossless is lossless IMO. I'm no audiophile (voodoo nuttery 99% of the time) I presume that's Apple's codec. I'm anti Apple shit, not a fan of closed gardens.

the main difference I’ve seen is you can add ALACs to iTunes but not FLAC. I tend to convert FLACs to ALAC ironically so I have the option if I ever want to use iTunes again.
