Question for artist peoples, I dont know if any of you make all your money from commissions and or patreon, so what do you do for money along with that? with my situation I need to start thinking long term and I was wondering if any one had any good guidance on the subject.

I essentially am working two things at the same time, with commission work and attending conventions + merch selling, as neither is enough to carry me financially by itself just yet. Many get part time jobs along their freelance/comm work to keep a steady income.

Were it not for society making me go to school to get socially acceptable skills I’d be the most powerful artist in the world. In this economy you really won’t get far unless you’re lucky or have a bachelors degree and several years experience

Commissions were my main and only income, but things are getting a bit difficult for me so I’ll start studying gastronomy on the beggining of October and help my wife with our italian food business the complement our income.

Unfortunately it’s rough out there so having a main, steady source of income (full time job/ multiple part time jobs) and doing commissions/ creating art whenever you’re able to until you can sort of shift over to doing art as your main gig is probably the best option.

Personally, I'm looking into more ways to comerciallice my work, like merch. If you go for that, start small, like stickers and keychains and grow into bigger stugg from there
