🔭 Last night I caught another exoplanet transit. This gas giant planet is located 385 light years from Earth and orbits its star every 3.5 Earth days. Not bad for a 4.5" telescope. #exoplanets#Unistellar

A graph of relative brightness versus time for a star known at TOI-1259 A. The graph shows that the light of the star dimmed a little over 1% as its planet, TOI-1259 Ab passed in front of it.

Heads up: There's a bright comet coming our way! These things are notoriously unpredictable, but IF Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS holds up, it could become a pretty, naked-eye object in early October. Details here: www.skyatnightmagazine.com/advice/comet... 🔭🧪

C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) from the Southern Hemisphere, captured 1 August 2024, 17: 49 UTC, by José J. Chambó. Credit: José J. Chambó.

First post on a scary new platform. Hello BlueSky 👋 Astrophotography - a big passion. The 5 superior planets, photographed early morning on 11th Aug with my back garden scope.

Here is a pic of the Aurora Borealis + tiny Perseids meteor trail + tiny/fuzzy M31 (Andromeda galaxy) just above and to the right of the small meteor trail. 11 pm, ISO 4000, A7R5, 15 sec, f/3.2, central Cal foothills. #photography#astrophotography#perseids#auroraborealis

Photo of night sky showing one tiny Perseids shower meteor streak + a tiny/fuzzy Andromeda galaxy (M31) just above and to the right of the streak + yellow-to-red aurora borealis lighting on the horizon, all with central California foothills at the bottom of the frame.

Here are a couple of photos I took of the Pedro fire northeast of Merced CA last night in the Lake McClure area. For scale, moored houseboats are visible in the water view. 📷 #photography#wildfire

Here's a slide from my informal tutorial project which introduces ML concepts via curve fitting for career learners who may have rusty calculus skills. #EduSky#ML#STEMsites.google.com/view/rcreame...#Rstatssites.google.com/view/rcreame...

What happens when you put a sealed water bottle with liquid nitrogen inside a watermelon? (From a science fair at Sierra College, CA a few years ago) #physics#science

A photo of an exploding watermelon with pieces flying off in all directions at a high speed. Setting: in a field of grass with spectators observing at a safe distance.

A few years ago, I created a slide deck introducing ML via the similar concepts of curve fitting, especially targeting older folks like me who may have rusty calculus skills. Here's the project page: sites.google.com/view/rcreame...#ml#machinelearning#Rstats
