The quarter trick to check if your food is safe to eat after a prolonged evacuation: Freeze a cup of water and, once frozen, place a quarter on top of the ice. If your freezer thaws and refreezes while you’re away, the quarter will be frozen at the bottom of the cup & it’s time to toss your food.

Now that's a very good tip

Can I use a nickel? I'm pretty tight this month.

Did you know you can test hearing aid type batteries by dropping on table top or floor. If they bounce they are good. If they are no good they do not bounce.

I do this in Texas every time I travel for an extended period (because, well, the Texas grid 🫠🙃), but I started using berries instead of coins, so I could still use the ice cubes later if they didn't melt. Coins are gross. 😏

What if I only have a 50p piece? :)

I heard that from some in the breastfeeding/chestfeeding set. The most vigilant freezer managers I have ever met.

If you freeze a dead pet in an action pose and they’re peacefully refrozen laying down when you get back, it’s time to toss your food.

Terrifyingly badly taxidermied black dog.
Family pet laying down comfortably.

Or…freeze a half full bottle of water and then turn it upside down.
