Yep. The police protect property, not people.

And even then, almost NEVER in real time - the police are only there to mop up, as usual. And you NEED that mop-up for the paperwork for insurance (assuming you're fortunate to have insurance) Cops don't stop crime. Never have, never will. They simply state (officially) that a crime happened.
