As someone who knows Africa very well, I can safely say that a large chunk of that money has gone into private bank accounts. Ministers will be buying up prime real estate, and a consignment of brand-new Land Cruisers will be enroute as we speak. Museveni's Swiss bank account just got larger.

That's client journalism for you. I'm sure they all started out with good intentions on their local rag, but as soon as an MP offers them tea and biscuits, they get swallowed up in the machine. At least Peston isn't as bad as Laura K, who I utterly despise.

If only we had a media and journalists, with actual journalistic skills, to report on this properly. Instead, the right-wing Tory press continue to push racist buttons and make everyone believe that people with nothing are the cause of all their problems.
