Another Art Nouveau gem is the Musée de l’École de Nancy, which contains lots of lovely stuff, including an entire dining room with walls, ceiling and furniture, and loads of gorgeous stained glass.

Visited the town of Nancy today for an Art Nouveau fix. The beautiful Villa Majorelle was the home of architect #LouisMajorelle and is supremely stylish inside and out.

One kitsch aspect of French art that always entertains me is when they start romanticising the Gauls. Because that’s how you end up with Sexy Asterix.

Detail of an Art Nouveau table decorated with a frieze of images created using inlaid wood of different shades. The central figure is a muscular Gaul warrior, who is shirtless qnd carrying a big sword. His hair is long and wavy and so is his moustache. A lady angel is clasping him for her own very good reasons.

Or if you don’t want to look at little surrealist guys, check out these BIG LADS by Judit Reigl. Absolute units, couldn’t stop giggling at them.

A 1950 painting by Judit Reigl called “They Have An Unquenchable Thirst For the Infinite”. It shows a bunch of brightly coloured surreal creatures, most of whom are grinning or yelling with scary glee. To be fair, it does look as if they have an unquenchable thirst for the infinite.

Enjoyed the #Surrealism show at the Centre Pompidou today (see Instagram for more pics). Here are some little guys I spotted there: the cutest Anubis ever by Yahne Le Toumelin; birdy boi by Reuben Mednikoff; small bean by Max Ernst; even smaller bean by Yves Tanguy.
