Honestly wild that New York City of all places still has minimum parking requirements
“As an affordable housing developer, each dollar saved on constructing parking could go towards building more housing for the lowest-income New Yorkers." NYC needs to end parking mandates! They increase rents and make affordable housing harder to build. www.crainsnewyork.com/op-ed/op-ed-...

It's insane
TBH also considering where the housing in NYC is going up (midtown, Forest hills, lic) you don't even really want a car? Maybe LIC but it has a LIRR, the 7, G, E, R, M easily accessible

So far, 35 people have "liked" this post. Half a dozen have replied to it. Not a single reply has defended minimum parking mandates. What on earth is going on here? Are there simply no defenders of minimum parking regulations on Bluesky? Do they exist, but you blocked them all?
It's wild that NYC of all places adopted that BS in the first place! But @parkingreform.org and our partners are exposing the pseudoscience of parking mandates and every day more and more people know about the high cost of free parking!
Hey we’re working on it alright
this topic was posted on the Queens reddit and a lot of the popular responses revolved around, “okay but for some of us we need a car” apparently they need every housing development to come with parking by law for them to keep doing that? idk.
It’s also insane that you don’t have to pay to park your car on the street *at all*
Well, in much of NYC it is much faster to drive than to take public transit, so people use cabs or have their own cars to expand mobility beyond their immediate environs
Insane that SF figured this out 6 years ago and the whole east coast is still lagging.
