It was "catastrophe" for me. It (and I swear I am not making this up) was on a "Space:1999" ViewMaster disc and I thought it was pronounced "CAT-uh-stroff," with the last syllable pronounced like "loaf." I guess I hadn't encountered the word "apostrophe" yet. 😅

That's almost the correct pronunciation if you are speaking French. I was a little outraged to find this out in my high school French class.
