The Address to the People of Great-Britain reminds its recipients that the colonists are descended from the same British ancestors as modernday Britons.

It’s both a declaration that the colonists are entitled to the same rights and liberties as subjects in Britain, and a warning that they have the same British fortitude to defend those rights if challenged.
