Farewell to a Lost Love of Lunches Past: Liverwurst

For me, the decision by Boar’s Head to end production is just the latest blow to a somewhat squishy slice of national and personal history.

Dang. We didn’t have liverwurst, but my grandparents always did. Once we tried it, we loved it.

I have liverwurst in my fridge right now. I eat it by the spoonful.

I went to a catholic elementary school in a mostly Italian suburb. Salami and cheese, ham and cheese, capicola and cheese and Friday was either Pastene tuna (packed in olive oil) with roasted red peppers and parsley or pb and fluff. I had to beg my mom to buy bologna for me.
