So despite my social anxiety doing its best to sabotage me, I ended up in a 1-on-1 mentoring session with Matt Dinniman. We talked about moving from self-publishing to trad pub, and he asked to hear me pitch my WIP. No prep or anything, but I did my best. And he liked it! Talk about an ego boost. XD
You know it's going to be a good panel when the moderator's opening question is "What's everyone's favorite apocalypse?"
Anyway. G*mergate still sucks but they seem to have dwindled into a sad little corner of the web with no outside influence where they all repeat each other's rancid opinions over and over. Almost like a... a small room with... sound bouncing back and forth. There's a word for that...
Not to mention the number of times they repeated sentiments like, "I'm not mad they went with a female main character. It could still be good if she does her job and keeps her mouth shut. Maybe they could do a silent protagonist!" Y'all. The hatred of women is barely even fig leafed.
I watched three videos and in two of them, the speaker googled Erika, found one picture without makeup, and reflexively insulted their looks. I can only assume these are the same people who can't play Horizon Zero Dawn without modding Aloy to be more "feminine".
I took a brief jaunt onto G*mergate Youtube to see why they're all mad at Erika Ishii and y'all, I feel so much dumber for it. Like, I'm not a gamer? But they're all misconstruing a 3 year old joke about Untitled Goose Game as "racism against white people." At least I get the reference.
It's the next day and I still can't get over how shallow all those cabinets look? Like, compare the sides of the cabinets to the doorframe, they all look like they're maybe six inches deep at most.
Will I see you at Capclave this weekend? I'll be there! I'm on a late panel on Friday night discussing post-apocalyptic fiction, and I'll be reading from new work on Saturday afternoon. You may even find me at a signing! www.capclave.org/capclave24/A...
