as a junior engineer: "can't wait for the day I have prod access!" as a senior engineer: "take prod access away from me RIGHT NOW"
Truth! But this also assumes you have people in support/operations who can actually support your stuff, and also, that the organization is set up to allow a thorough/competent hand-off or, that you don't care about support... which is also completely valid lol :P
Staff engineer: I'mma find the dingdong that gave me prod access and make sure they n e v e r do that again. A lot of places do automated provisioning and if you find you have access you shouldn't it's best to raise a red flag right then and there or your org is gonna fail a compliance audit.
When I was a young man developers were kept far far away from operations. It was better that way.
Yeap. Found out today I have admin access to prod, demanded it to be removed the hell right away
me: *sweat dripping down my face, hands shaking, gasping like I'm running a marathon* coworker: dude you just need to open the log file
Never. I never want it.
Ugh. This just tells me I need to be more open to a better job. I have a ton of responsibility for mediocre pay, at least from a software dev perspective.
micah this is too real, im here to laugh not to cry
as a senior engineer: "they're giving me prod access at 9am on day one? Imma run the fuck away and get back onto linkedin."
