I remember AIDS activists doing “die-ins” to block the SF gay pride parade in the early 90s (bear in mind, *literally everyone in the parade had lost friends to AIDS*) and I thought, they say they’re fighting for justice but really they just love being the turd in the punch bowl.

That's why I call those types social justice Catholics Rarely interested in the hard and awkward work of making things better. But boy can they mourn in public

Not to mention, we need hope to take action, whether that's volunteering somewhere, running for local office or going out and protesting with other people. Nurturing an sense of doom immobilizes us and makes us think that yelling on social media is all we can do.

Another a good reason to say no to free and poorly-compensated diversity-washing invitations from arenas that have done us deep harm and are then affronted when we politely turn down their bullsh*t invitations. Why speak to folks who won't listen or change, but only make us feel worse?

I can feel despair constantly nipping at my heels, but it's exhausting trying to stay ahead of it all the time. Hence posting about silly things, and retreating to much loved cultural havens like the Discworld. Wouldn't still be here without it.
