once again reinforcing the fact that the best online communities are the ones where there are mods with their heads screwed on straight who are willing to ban the shit-stirrers regardless of whether they have technically broken any rules just, no, you’re making it worse for everyone, bye
This is why I walked away from Reddit; they keep actively working against and getting rid of mods.
also those communities and those individuals. they don’t hide that well
this is why believe in "broken stair" or "sploded" or "we reserve the right to remove you for any reason" clauses in rules - there will inevitably be some shitty situation that the rules do not formally cover. sometimes shitty people need to be removed regardless of what the rules don't say.
The overlap between "I enjoy this space" and "it is well modded and or total blocking works" is a circle. Even if occasionally I fall foul of mods.
Moderation needs to be done with a mailed fist.
Ran a forum for old snowboard nerds for a few years. The way people would scream "freeze peach" at me for banning their friends for being assholes. I eventually tired of arguing with them about how I ran the only place to nerd out on snowboarding that wasn't corp owned/ad filled so I walked away.Ran a forum for old snowboard nerds for a few years. I would srsly like to roll this study up and hit Zuck with it until he deletes the account of our local transphobe book banner who keeps harassing teachers and promoting debunked pseudo science on FB.
As a former late-90s/early 00s forum shit-stirrer myself, I can absolutely arrest to this.
