In her writing, Jonë explores language as an antagonism that places her war-refugee and migrant experiences in an ongoing dialogue between homes in transit. Thank you to Fjolla Bunjaku for reading parts of Jonë’s essay for this episode. #Kosova#Albania#Balkan#DiasporasSpeaking

I remember seeing my father behind these bars, waiting for us, his teeth pulled with force, his hair shaven, a thread holding his trousers, barely being able to stand; & despise every inch of this place for taking so much, for holding so many memories & for revealing so little.
Today I revisited this former prison complex in Gjilan, Kosovo, which holds echoing pain and dark memories for many families. In one of these rooms my father spent a winter and lived the horrors of the Serbian regime in his bones—for fighting for human rights.
Thank you ☺️
