I’m a non-Zionist Jew who has devoted my career to the study of & participation in Jewish life, text, & practice. Some of my most knowledgeable, humane, & passionately Jewish mentors and colleagues are anti/non-Zionist. If, per the US House, we are antisemites, then that term has lost all meaning.
Serious, if uninformed, question: what does anti-Zionist mean in practical terms? No state of Israel?
"Zionist" should be a word only used by Jews. No one else seems to grasp its meaning. We are between a rock and a hard place; xtian zionists using us for islamophobic fodder and nazi sympathizers using 'zionist' as if it's a slur.
They call you antisemites after they just did a rally with John Hagee.
Non-Zionist or Anti-Zionist?
It is a nonsense since its conception. Arabs are Semites but the term doesn't apply. Besides we have the terms racism and xenophobia which should cover it. No need for special term, also consider that e.g. black people meet more racism all around the world as the black Jews of Israel could tell you.
Genuine question: if you are anti Zionist does that mean you think Israel should not exist? Where should all the Israelis go if Israel stops existing?
I'm curious: What are your thoughts on The Netanyahus by Joshua Cohen? (I adore J.Cohen)
Removing the meaning IS their endgame. Frees them up to be more openly bigoted, and not just on twitter!
The interests of World Jewry (whose welfare depends on ‘antisemitism’ retaining its power) are hurt when the term is 1) cheapened by American politicians to prevent criticism of their strategic ally in the ME, and 2) cheapened by Israelis to prevent fair criticism of their apartheid ethnostate
