"The crowd favourite is 'The Land', a protest anthem calling for land value taxation, which is sung twice in the first half hour. Let it never be said that politicos don’t know how to have fun." My Lib Dem conference diary for this week's @newstatesman.comwww.newstatesman.com/diary/2024/0...
Also this week: Victoria Starmer’s dress code, and my lost Alpine summer.
I have no idea what kind of bug the cat just chased down, killed and ate, but I have never seen her so proud of herself in her little furry life
Of course - but I think it's about having a very clear, settled understanding of who you are and what you want and how your life works, and only being interested in people who enhance that and add to it (while also challenging it sometimes!), not who try to shrink it
I love this. Have had a few chats with female friends recently about embracing solo life. They're not "settling" on being single or "giving up", they just love their lives as they are and would only mess them up for someone else if it were 100% the right person, not just someone for the sake of it
I had a very similar piece of "advice" in my 20s. But I also got the counter advice: "don't let yourself get painted into corner, there'll soon be a younger woman to take your place so your only option will be to go further right - don't do it if you don't believe it". I listened. Others...didn't
No - but it should have been
Is it bad that my husband just said “I made a new friend today!” and my immediate assumption was that he was obviously talking about a cat
Priti Patel out, Robert Jenrick top, James Cleverly in ascendance, Kemi Badenoch knocked off her perch, Tom Tugendhat struggling, and Mel Stride still in the race… So what next? www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk-...
This leadership contest is already offering up surprises.
