If there's one transit technology I think is under appreciated, it's elevated rail. Even as some urbanists talk about trains in the sky as if they are elevated highways, it unlocks incredible transit service on a budget and at incredible speed. youtu.be/-1ZnGNRk8V0?...

What's your take on fenced-in at grade metro? Kinda like pic related in Nuremberg (the stretch in question was built 1967-1972)
I always wondered why they didn’t even consider the idea of building Montreal’s Blue Line extension as elevated rail. Sapporo I believe has a similar rubber tired system and they managed it with covered sections above ground. Surely cheaper than tunnelling?
All of this is true, but the Simpsons cartoon mocked monorails 31 years ago so it's an automatic nonstarter. /s
I wish my fellow New Yorkers would show some appreciation for elevated rail. It doesn’t just cost less to build than underground rail, it can transport far more people at a time than bus rapid transit could ever hope to.
Great video, one of your best! Many of my favourite cities are those with elevated rail (or good trams) because I just love riding the system as a way to see the city, getting off at interesting looking stops to explore different neighbourhoods
