Up until this year, I really thought remote work was going to turn things around for a lot of these economically depressed cities with cheap housing. But, it's more important for bosses to feel like bosses by having a full office, I guess

Iirc most people who had remote work who lived in a different area than their HQ (e.g. not just further out in the burbs) didn’t choose to live in a cheap place, they chose to live in a place that matched their lifestyle more — including NYC and a lot of Western mountain towns.
