Because generation after generation has to deal with garbage parents that just completely fail to figure anything out and pass it on to their doomed kids. I'm certain that if my takeaway from Ender's Game as a kid wasn't "adults are going to screw you up and not care" I would be one of them.

See mine was "you can't make someone into a weapon and then be upset about it" and "don't make people into weapons"
