We don't get to choose whether this is hard. This is hard. We only get to choose whether we're going to talk to ourselves, visualize, and/or use our breathing & physiology in ways that make this a lot harder or a little easier.
If you were a kid who had to deal w/ very adult sh*t growing up, like coping w/ sexual victimization or managing the adults around you, you likely missed out on "kid" stuff-- which is why, as adults in recovery, so many of us feel strangely "young." But also very, very old.
It's not weird to have no idea who you are or what you want, when you've never had the safety, support, or freedom to explore who you are & what you may want out of life. It's not too late to start from scratch w/ imagining & exploring & developing who you really are.
Make the inside of your head & heart a safe place. That means no attacking, no shaming, & no abandoning yourself-- no matter what. Anyone who tells you attacking, shaming, or abandoning yourself is the way to go, isn't interested in your motivation, stability, or success.
