I know it can be hard to see it but I'm full of hope for the internet that will emerge between now and 2027. @anildash.com is right: things are about to shake out and get a lot better. Just listing a few things below to explain *some* of the changes on the way.

This is the underdiscussed fact that dominates the entire economics of the web. Google Search pays (in defaults and revenue share) for 92% of browsers by market share. In return they accept specific terms as to how they work and enforce Google's dominance. How does this impact things? In many ways!

Diagram showing all search engines >1% and all browsers >1%, and how the former pay for the latter.
Yandex, Yahoo, Baidu (all 1%) don't pay for a major browser.
Google Search (91%) pays for browsers that add up to over 92% of the market: Chrome, Opera, Samsung, Firefox, Safari.
Bing (3%) pays for Edge (5%).
