In 2022, Chief O'Hara described MPD's off-duty work system as "rife for corruption". In 2023, the DOJ said MPD's off-duty work system was poorly managed, undermining supervision and accountability for misconduct.
MPD's off-duty work system is fundamentally broken, undermining reform while at the same time subsidizing MPD officers' side gigs at taxpayer expense. Yesterday's vote establishes a clear path for an overhaul of this system and I look forward to leading the City Council on this.
