A bit of megafauna on the way home this evening. Looking somewhat scrawny, and allowed close approach so possibly not very well.
This black crust on a dead oak branch turned out to be the lichen Catillaria nigroclavata, second occurrence in Norfolk. Not all lichens are good lookinā yāknow.
A mystery pinhead fungus on dead grass from yesterday, trying to get to the bottom of identifying these tiny things can be quite a journey. Spores in second photo.
Well, LGBI 2 has a lot more species in, and does use apothecial features, but I think sedifolia has a very distinctive appearance.
Dobsonās key to UK species, no need for apothecia but assume there are more species outside the UK!
