This past week in the Record Room we've been yacking about Timi Yuro, the Pop Group, Rita Pavone, 80s powerpop, the Dudley Moore Trio and a bunch of 70s TV themes. Pop in and grab a chair. I'll get you a cold drink. patreon.com/bobstanley

Talk of the Chart Show video era yesterday reminded me of comics’ greatest portrayal of pop music: two panels that (if you ‘were there’) you can 100% hear exactly what they sound like. The second one in particular IS 1992

Zenith by Grant Morrison and Steve Yeowell. Zenith trips out through a psychedelic star field surrounded by faces, he is dressed in a baggy shirt and jacket and yellow joggers and - a crucial point - he is wielding a pair of maracas. A documentary voiceover confirms that there has always been a dance element to his music.
A scene from a fictional Top Of The Pops by Grant Morrison and Steve Yeowell. ACID ARCHIE, a large red robot, is singing “AU - DIO - ACTIVE” over bleeps and clanks. Backing dancers in vaguely B Boyish outfits groove in the background amidst dry ice.

Join me and the gang in the Record Room tonight when I'll be pulling out some plum TV themes and "TV personality" 45s. Things like this, from Fingerbobs presenter and fine fellow Rick Jones. patreon.com/bobstanleywww.youtube.com/watch?v=ytO6...

I’m launching Bob Stanley’s Record Room on Patreon, writing on pop music in all its hues. I’ll be delving into my collection, pulling out plums, giving them a spin, rifling through old copies of Disc, Smash Hits and the like. Come on down! It'll be fun: t.co/VXQZ5B7Fl1

Astonishing, really, that such a compilation has only just come into existence. But how lucky we are to have @rockingbob.bsky.social#nowplaying
