It’s funny, I’ve also read the first two of the books the series is based on, and while they’re great, I actually think I like the tv show version better. This is a very rare occurrence, and really says something about how great the adaptation is.

Oh, sure. I’m not saying the “ignore the problem until they graduate” strategy makes sense, just that if they were doing that on purpose it would be hard to distinguish from reality.

The fact that the student body turns over every four years seems to disincentivize caring about the opinions of any particular crop of students, because if the administration just drags their feet long enough those students will go away. It sucks, but it sure matches the behavior seen in the wild.
