I was thinking about Janet Jackson today while listening to Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter" album, which reminded me of how the "janet." album explored different styles and moods in ways that mostly flew over the heads of critics at the time. Ms. Jackson is a pop icon, but she's a fine musician too.
