For a lot of us, losing Twitter isn’t really about losing ties to the company itself. It’s losing 10+ years of real, asynchronous communities, professional development, the ability to get gigs and clients, the ability to promo/share your art on an extremely broad scale. The loss of that has impact.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he banned porn and adult art next, because that would damage the X brand.

Everyone has to update their contact info to massage this jerk’s ego now. It makes me sick.

Agreed. It's the 13 years of connections, of communities that were formed and I was a part of, of friends I made, of meaningful exchanges, of discovering new books, music, art, games, etc. Also surprisingly, of saving lives during Hurricane Maria. Wont miss the brand, but will miss the rest.

Livetweeting on there has become harder and harder. I was shadowbanned half way through my movie on Saturday. Trying to move to Discord.

I know. Media folk live in a political bubble and have never understood the number and variety of communities that Twitter fostered.

If twitter died Japan would moved back five to ten years in the past. Japan is probably the second biggest Twitter market and without Twitter, idk how people are gonna promote their stuff.

Exactly this! Personally, I thought it was so cool that I could connect with people normally not accessible in my spheres, such as actors or creatives who made my favorite media. Such a shame to see Twitter lose all of that in the attempt to become Weibo 2.0

I wasn’t on Twitter for that long, but I was always concerned about this exact scenario happening—communities concentrated around a single point of failure and being scattered by the whims of users-are-the-product capitalism. e.g., I used to be a geocacher. Emphasis on *used to* be.

I have my current job because of Twitter.
