#space#OTD October 4 1957, the launch of Earth's first artificial satellite, USSR's Sputnik 1, a world-wide sensation which initiated the "space race" with USA. Globe and Mail front page the next day: "Hear Signal Loud, Clear Over Toronto" i remember it well... i was an 8-year-old science nerd
