Would you italicise the second instance or is it more of a brand name if you're referring to the franchise as a whole?

We tend to set series titles in roman anyway, so we'd say The Lord of the Rings but (asterisks for italics) *The Fellowship of the Ring,* *The Two Towers,* etc. Of course some people say that The Lord of the Rings is a single book divided into parts, so............
