Things like these just show how interconnected the system is: to make it possible to consume less and also not trap someone in the home, we would have to overturn our whole relationship to work, wealth, gender roles.

Totally agree with the article. I will also point out that while technology does free women from the intense physical labor of old timey cleaning and cooking, we haven’t gained much more free time because the social standards go up as the technology improves. See Ruth Cowan’s More Work for Mother.
I’ve made the mistake of clicking on some instagram kitchen-design accounts and now my IG feed is inundated with tradwive influencers in dumb Laura Ingalls costumes.
A couple of years back my washing machine broke and i had to do laundry by hand one time. Never fucking again fucking sucks and the result was shit too . I looked up if there was any laundromat nearby sadly nope. Thankfully only once had a new machine pretty quickly afterwards.
