Speaking as a cardiovascular researcher, I think for this specific discussion using the term "cardiovascular risk" is way too broad. I think (I would hope!) these researchers would be fine with a better term for fat that contributes to cardiovascular/metabolic risk.

I'm not tied to the term specifically, but considering how difficult it is for people to lose weight (much less manipulate the kind/storage of the fat they have) and the complicated individual relationship between weight and health I think it's preferable to just leave out the concept altogether.
