THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at JHU have developed an experimental drug called RK-33, that in preclinical studies has shown promise in treating breast cancer with bone metastases. RK-33 eliminated the metastases AND prevented further cancer spread. Let’s talk about that! 🧪🧵⬇️

It honestly puts a smile on my face when reading about this kind of stuff that will prevent terrible things from happening to people, and knowing that the people who research this stuff know how important it is and can't wait to share it

The research has been published in Cancer Letters. Yes, it is PEER-REVIEWED. • www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Key Takeaways:

•RK-33 targets DDX3, an RNA helicase elevated in cancer cells, to inhibit breast cancer bone metastasis.

•In mouse models, RK-33 eliminated bone metastases and prevented further cancer spread without significant adverse effects.

•The study suggests RK-33 as a promising treatment for breast cancer bone metastasis, urging further research into its broader applications.

Lost my mom to this kind of cancer, damaged the mental health of my whole family to watch her decline. Hope this gets broad clinical trials soon to save some lives.

That's definitely huge, especially when it comes to bone metastases. I lost my father to prostate cancer that metastasized to the bone before they caught it, and it was terminal at that point. Nothing they could do but give him chemo and zap the lesions whenever they cropped up.

That's great news, a family of mine had breast cancer and it was very troublesome, it's great to see the development of this kind of drugs
