I had a tricky bereaved foster, he was about 12 years old. I had the space to give him his own room with personal litter tray, and he slept in there every night for about three months. He was free to wander the house during the day, and after about four months he settled down and became a super cat.
I can better that! I had a big frozen turkey slowly defrosting in a cellar, which a cat identified as nibbles 😁

I once left a freshly made apple pie to cool in a larder, and a cat got in and ate all of the top crust. We ate the resulting apple tart without ill effects!
It took me about a year to work out what the slightly serrated depressions in slabs of butter were caused by - I'd put it down to 'shrinkage'!
