Where Vance comes off as a phony populist, the sort who couldn't wait to get the hell out of exurban Ohio & who really enjoys hanging out with his billionaire patrons like Peter Thiel and Donald Trump, Walz is the sort of public figure who buys his own furnace filters at Menards. He's the real deal.
Whether we like it or not, we live in a populist era. American populism is a multi-valent political tradition that can take a variety of forms, some more reactionary/exclusionary and some more progressive/inclusive. Picking Walz for VP could activate the progressive populist tradition in a good way.
