Did Twitter get worse or did being on a normal site for 5 minutes just jostle my perception of it

No... it got worse...

It did absolutely get shitty. Before Musk took it, the bot outbreak was a pain in the ass - but beyond that, after the purchase, it took such a nose-dive in quality that no shit advertisers are running for the hills and its price dropped massively. It reeks of ass.
