It is very amusing to me that the wikipedia page "List of inventors killed by their own invention," in the maritime section, has two Titanic-related incidents back-to-back. This list is in chronological order lol

- Thomas Andrews (1873–1912), the naval architect of the Titanic, designed his famous vessel while serving as the managing director and head of the drafting department of the shipbuilding company Harland and Wolff in Belfast, Ireland. He was aboard the Titanic during her maiden voyage and perished alongside approximately 1,500 others when the ship hit an iceberg and sank on 14 April 1912. Andrews' body was never recovered.
- Stockton Rush (1962–2023) was a pilot, engineer, and businessman who oversaw the design and construction of the OceanGate submersible Titan, used to take tourists to view the wreck of the Titanic. On 18 June 2023, the craft imploded during a dive to the Titanic, killing Rush and four other passengers. Rush had spent years staunchly defending his unregulated design, claiming that "at some point, safety is just pure waste. I mean, if you just want to be safe, don't get out of bed, don't get in your car, don't do anything".

I made this earlier this month for Supergreatfriend's yearly ritual of playing a notoriously bad game in a single sitting, aka The Penance Stream, which he does for his anniversary. This year it was Drake of the 99 Dragons. #supergreatfriend#sgf#drakeofthe99dragons#blender#bubsy#saw#jigsaw

Supergreatfriend, who makes LPs on Twitch and Youtube, is depicted here as his avatar, a man with a red tv for a head with green dots for a face. He is sticking both arms into a toilet full of used syringes, some of which have pierced his skin, to grasp an Xbox controller which he uses to play Drake of the 99 Dragons. The expression on this tv screen face is one of anger and pain. Behind him is Drake, the main character of Drake of the 99 Dragons, posing with two handguns. He has a comic book speech bubble which reads, "Hurry, Supergreatfriend! If you don't beat this game, we'll never escape!" They are in a dirty room with a decayed ceiling and stained tile walls, lit with two fluorescent lights. This setting is meant to be recognizable as a Jigsaw-type scenario from the Saw movies and video games. The toilet full of syringes is a thing from the Saw games. The player must stick their arm in it to find a key. Above the two characters is an old crt tv held in place by a nest of barbed wire. On the screen is Bubsy the Cat from Bubsy 3D (that's where I got his model), taking the place of Billy the Puppet from the Saw films. This is because last year's Penance Stream was Bubsy 3D. The screen is tinted green like in the movies. On ceiling, barely visible there is text reading Penance Stream 2024, in honor of the occasion.

today someone was talking about Supermassive Games and got them mixed up with Supergiant Games, which is understandable since their names are both Super "Big" and since I had the Big the Cat model ready to go anyway...

Big the Cat from the Dreamcast game Sonic Adventure hovers in the air with Superman's symbol on his chest and a red cape above the version of Metropolis from Superman 64. A green ring, which the player is meant to fly through, is visible in the background. In the art deco font used in Superman 64, text reads: "Then there's no time to waste!" which is what Superman says at the beginning of every mission in that game. I often make art, not because it's some carefully considered concept, but because a simple idea presents itself and I think, "Oh, I could make that!" and I try to do so as quickly as possible. This one took me less than an hour and it was great practice. It's very much like an illustrator's sketch rather than something I thought about for a long time. Though that would be funny. Imagine if I had the extremely banal image: "Big the Cat...but he's in Superman 64!" and it haunted me for years and after countless hours of practice in Blender, I was like, "Haha! Finally my masterpiece! After all this time, my long sought after goal of rendering Big the Cat in a Superman cape flying has finally come to fruition! Sonic Adventure came out in 1998! It's been 26 long years but it finally paid off!" What do you think? Was it worth all that time? Of course it was. Just look at him.

disco, church, it's all in the mind

The dance scene from "Disco Elysium" drawn in the style of "Parappa the Rapper". Harry and Kim are in the foreground, and Andre and Egghead are in the background

"I was weak. That's why I needed you... needed someone to punish me for my sins..." I have @michelledraws.bsky.social#sh2#silenthill2#shrek

James Sunderland kneels on the floor, looking down at his hands in grief. To his left and right stand Shrekheads, which look exactly like Pyramidhead from Silent Hill 2 except that they each have a fully nude Shrek where their head would be. The Shrek bodies tilt downward, matching the slope of the original Pyramidhead helmet. The Shrekhead on the left holds a spear upright with the base of it resting on the ground. The Shrekhead on the right holds his spear high with the tip pointing downward at James. The floor has the pattern of a Persian carpet and the walls are all broken concrete with a grid of exposed rebar. The scene is illuminated by a dim red light, tinting the entire picture crimson. The nude Shreks atop the Shrekheads' shoulders reach their hands toward James, the expressions on their faces smiling at him like giant green babies. (They represent James' unresolved sexual feelings for Shrek.) Also as a finishing touch, I put a grunge layer over everything so the picture looks scratched and dirty.

Silent Hill 1 Prologue except the body Harry Mason finds is the concept art of an unused version of Steve Burnside from Resident Evil Code: Veronica, a.k.a. STEAVE. #silenthill#residentevil#codeveronica#harrymason#steveburnside#steave

Through a chain link fence, we see Harry Mason in the Silent Hill 1 prologue. He is surrounded on all sides by rusty metal fences and barbed wire in a narrow alley. The ground is wet with rain and blood. The scene is very dark, illuminated only by the flame of Harry's lighter, which he holds in his right hand. He is examining a figure who appears to be crucified and strung up on countless strands of barb wire. Strips of what might be fabric or possible skin dangle from the barbed wire. The figure is covered in blood. It is the concept art version of Steve Burnside, from Resident Evil Code: Veronica. There is text to the left of Harry in the original Silent Hill 1 font. Harry is saying, "What is this? What's going on here!?"
Harry Mason inspects the bloody, crucified body of Steve Burnside (concept art version) hanging from many strands of barbed wire. The ground is slick with puddles of blood and in the foreground, skeletal remains and half-eaten corpses are barely visible in the dark. The only light comes from Harry's lighter, the flame casts an orange glow over the bloody body in front of him and the rusty chain link fence all around them. (Fun fact: the chain link fence and barbed wire are all procedurally generated using Geometry Nodes in Blender!) Harry's subtitle text hangs in the air to his left. He says, "What? What's this doing here?"
This is the concept art for Steve Burnside from Resident Evil Code: Veronica. An unused design. He is blonde with a red bandana. He has a bandaid on his left cheek. He wears no shirt, but does have a brown leather bandolier slung diagonally across his chest. It has no bullets on it, but appears to hold two small drill bits. He wears mustard yellow cargo pants and a white belt with a white buckle. He wears a fingerless brown leather glove on his left hand. His right wrist has a watch or possibly a bracelet on it with a very thin band, which is also white. His yellow pants are tucked into brown leather boots with tall white treads underneath. He looks very different from his appearance in Code: Veronica. In the top right corner of the picture, his name is spelled incorrectly with an "a" in it: S T E A V E. So that's what I call him: Steave.

"I got a letter. The name on the envelope said Froggy." #silenthill#silenthill2#sonicadventure#bigthecat#froggy#james#mary

Big the Cat from the Dreamcast game Sonic Adventure stands on a foggy street holding his fishing pole in his left hand and a piece of paper in his right hand. To his right, the contents of the letter are superimposed over a picture of Froggy, both the letter and froggy fading into the surrounding fog. The letter reads: "In my restless dreams, I see that town. Silent Hill. You promised me you'd take me there again someday. But you never did. Well, I'm alone there now. In our special place. Waiting for you."

Since the Silent Hill 2 remake came out this month, I've been making a lot Silent Hill edits lately, like Big the Cat in Silent Hill. "Do I look like your girlfriend?" #silenthill2#bigthecat#sonicadventure#froggy#maria

A frog that looks exactly like Froggy from the Dreamcast game Sonic Adventure sits perched atop a trash can in Rosewater Park in Silent Hill surrounded by fog. The frog is dressed like Maria from Silent Hill 2 and has the same hair as her too.
Big the Cat from the Dreamcast game Sonic Adventure stands on a foggy promenade by Toluca Lake in Silent Hill. He is holding his fishing pole in his left hand. He is looking at a frog that looks exactly like Froggy, his best friend, but this frog is dressed in sexy clothing and has blonde hair with pink dye.
A view of Big the Cat facing this strange frog that looks exactly like Froggy but is dressed in sexy clothing and with blonde hair dyed pink. The camera is a distance away, as if the cameraman was in a boat on the lake, zooming in on Big and the frog. The camera is tilted slightly and the whole scene is wrapped in thick fog.
The camera is behind the sexy frog and we can see she has a pink leopard print skirt and tall black boots going up to her knees. Her blonde hair with the tips dyed pink is also very visible. From this angle we see Big the Cat holding his fishing pole, his head tilted downward to stare at the frog, who looks exactly like Froggy but only her clothes and hair are different.
