It's not just the US .. It's spreading all over the globe.

This cult exists in Germany too.

As I've frequently put it, more directly to said cult, "People who armpit-farted their way through science class ought to be embarrassed by their ignorance, not celebrating it."

Netherlands the same. One can ignore truth, bus truth does not ignore us.

Sadly this applies to UK as well. We wouldn’t have have had Brexit without our cultural celebration of ignorance.
