First full day of funemployment and I am sitting on the couch mindlessly scrolling, waiting for the Mohawk Valley Water Authority to call me back.
One of the funniest work interactions I regularly have is someone saying something like "I beat out a PhD for this job" or "He had a PhD and couldn't do it" before giving me a look like "no offense."

Every time I get reviews back for an article, I'm reminded of the importance of not only clearly stating what the article is going to do, but also clearly stating what it's NOT going to do.
Copied some writing from one proposal form to another and adjusted the font and formatting. Today is shaping up to be a great and productive day.
i have been pretty suspicious of many of the self-declared AI higher ed experts (which is why I haven’t talked much online about my own work and research in and around genAI) and almost all of them seem to lack what I would call “labor literacy”

I just think that if you're looking at that article from The Lancet about the death toll in Gaza and writing threads about how historically those kinds of estimates are too high, you've lost the plot. Any number is too many deaths!
I gave three workshop presentations today, so now I'm going to go stare at a wall by myself in silence for a couple of hours.
Poor people use libraries for books. Poor people use libraries for computer access. Poor people use libraries for a quiet place to rest. Poor people use libraries for access to A/C and heat. Rich people shut them down *because* of all this. It's a shocking failure of empathy.
