You know you have arrived in #Iceland when you read this at the airport

#bookbirds I finished this one in 3 days. Set in France, mainly in the SouthWest (Lot region). It starts at the beginning of Covid, covering the first 3 months of 2020. I like how the virus and its effects on people are described together with Nature & effects of climate change, a virus in itself.

The WW2 allies managed to end the war in Europe in the 11 months between D-Day and VE-Day. Israel hasn’t managed to win a war in a piece of land 1/3rd the size of New York City in 8 months.

#bookbirds Finished re-reading Chicago by Alaa Al Aswany, in preparation for a conversation with the author. I had not forgotten any of the many characters. This book is a tapestry of life stories threaded into a beautiful tale of immigration/love/longing/exile and yes, fun, sex & sadness too.

#bookbirds Yesterday, I finished reading my first book by Lauren Groff. An interesting take on womanhood & monastery life at the times of Queen Eleanor. It was the reason I bought it, I love Queen Eleanor and the Middle Ages. However, something is missing. Not a keeper.

Remembering Edward Elgar on his birthday 🎂 William Rothenstein, 1919 "Not manic enough to be Russian, not witty enough to be French, not harmonically simple enough to be Italian & not stodgy enough to be German. We arrive at his Englishry by pure elimination." - Anthony Burgess

Finished @sashavasilyuk.bsky.social first novel two days ago. It moved me deeply. History is never simply black or white, it's all grey nuances. We are pawns in the hands of mad men for whom war is a powergame. Highly recommend reading this novel.

Not here very often. Just wanted to say that this is the best book i have read so far in 2024. And it had been on my shelves since 2022. #bookbirds
