I feel this about all things Sirius Black. Other than him, I'm so over the HP world. But I struggle to let go of Sirius.
Yesterday, I debated going to the parade. To be a part of it all. I joked with my colleagues that I probably wouldn't because my youngest kiddo is a bit of a runner and I don't want to lose him. Today, I'm so grateful I chose to stay home. It shouldn't be like this.
Because mass shootings can be prevented. And instead of passing the sort of gun laws that would keep us safe, our state passes laws that make it easier to own a gun and carry them wherever you want. Our state made it way too easy for this to happen.
But it feels so good to be seen. In a country that almost always focuses on New York or California, it feels good to be seen. But now, we're being seen for all the wrong reasons. And it makes me sad, for sure, but also mad.
It seemed like all of us were on the same page. We're Kansas City. We're proud. The country will know who we are! And look, our city is so so so much more than our football team. We are. We have amazing art and music here. We have some kick ass food (not just the barbecue)
For the past two weeks, in the lead up to the Superbowl, our city has been so unified. Even people (like me, let's be honest) who don't follow football get caught up in Chiefs fever. Our team dominates the conversation. Everyone's decked out in red and yellow. Schools had spirit weeks.
