I'm sort of never not thinking about the "Codex Canadensis," an extraordinary visual imaginary of the people, animals, and plants encountered by Jesuit Louis Nicholas in New France c1660s www.aci-iac.ca/the-essay/ar...commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Categor...
This is wonderful, thank you. What I imagine is a pine marten (the stinking animal that smells very bad) is my favorite animal name I have ever seen.
Amazing! Thanks for sharing.
Magnificent!! Although I can't quite figure out what the porcupine bird with beautiful plumage probably was. And that sea horse seen inthe meadows-???- he drew a seal elsewhere with normal seal face, so what is that horse head with a pinniped body?
Oh and yes, there are Superb Owls "Codex Canadensis" by Jesuit Louis Nicholas, from observations in New France c1660 Images from commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Categor...
Never seen these before. They're amazing, and I love the style they're done in.
I’ve never heard of this before, thanks for sharing it! Cheval Marin! Rat des montagnes! Wonderful! 😎🤪
His method of “shading” makes them look vibrant and electric—wonderful, like a glimpse into an alternate timeline or reality where animals looked exactly like this
